The closing quarter of 2011 was a busy time for Tasveer, with all our six traveling exhibitions in full swing, as well as our participation at the TEDx Conference in Ahmedabad and the Delhi Photo Festival. During this time, we also established the Tasveer Foundation - a not-for-profit trust aimed at facilitating the appreciation, documentation and study of fine arts in India, including, but not limited to, photography. Professor B.N. Goswamy delivered the Foundation's inaugural lecture at the NGMA in Bangalore, where he discussed the painter Nainsukh and his work. Alongside this lecture programme, the Foundation will support many of Tasveer's exhibitions and outreach projects in 2012.

This January sees the 4th Edition of the India Art Fair at the NSIC Exhibition grounds in New Delhi (25th - 29th January), and we're delighted to announce that Tasveer will be exhibiting. On display at our booth (C11) will be new and previously un-exhibited work by Karen Knorr, Anna Fox & Maïmouna Guerresi - three leading European women photographers. In addition to this, we will be showing a range of vintage and modern prints by important photographers from both within and outside India, including TS Satyan, Saibal Das, Prabuddha Dasgupta and Derry Moore. Further information on the Fair can be found on the IAF website, www.indiaartfair.in.

On Saturday 28th January, Tasveer's Directors, Shalini Gupta and Abhishek Poddar, will be hosting a guided tour of the India Art Fair for the Young Presidents Organisation, where they will discuss not only what's being exhibited by Tasveer, but also what's on show at many of the other booths. Concurrently and close-by to the Art Fair, we will also be holding an exhibition of photographs by British Fashion photographer, Norman Parkinson, and Indian photographer Swapan Nayak. A special opening preview has been scheduled as a collateral event to the Fair for VIP pass holders on the 27th January and the exhibition is open to the public for the rest of the month.

We recently attended the awards ceremony for Toto Funds the Arts (TFA) photography prize at the Aliance Français in Bangalore, and are delighted to announce that the two winners were Indu Antony and Adil Hasan. As the premiere contemporary photography award in India for young artists, the TFA prize continues to be an invaluable platform for the expression of new ideas in the field of photography. Tasveer is honoured to be involved as the judging panel and sponsor for the event and we wish all the photographers involved the very best as they begin their careers. (Adil's winning images can be seen through the following link: www.tasveeronline.com).

We're now getting ready for Tasveer's Seventh Season and would like to take this opportunity to talk about three of the six exhibitions planned to begin this summer: solo shows by Raghu Rai, Maïmouna Guerresi and Derry Moore. As our second exhibition of photographs by the great Indian master, Rai's 2012 exhibition will again concentrate on his black and white images. Titled 'Divine Intervention', the exhibition explores the photographer's ability to capture those rare moments where disparate elements behave harmoniously in the camera's frame.

Known for her large-scale works which blend sculpture, performance and installation, Guerresi's highly symbolic portraits explore notions of spirituality, symbolism and the body. Her new series on India has been put together especially for Tasveer, and will form her first exhibition in India.

Our third confirmed solo exhibition for Season Seven, 'Evening Ragas', brings the work of British photographer, Derry Moore, back to India. A student of Bill Brandt, Moore's photographs contain something of his teacher's, mastery of light, whilst adding to it an eloquent style which is distinctly his own. This exhibition concentrates on a body of work Moore made in India, which he began in the 70s. This, along with all our other exhibitions, will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue and a short text by the photographer.

In addition to our physical print exhibitions, we've also been busy adding various new photographers to our web-based exhibition platform, Taveer Online - including François Daireaux, Manjari Sharma and Adeel Halim (and the aforementioned TFA winner, Adil Hasan).

When Tasveer began its journey back in 2006, we were motivated by an aspiration to promote photography as an important art form in India - be it the work of emerging, established, Indian or international photographers. Through the combination of our exhibitions programme, the Tasveer Foundation, Tasveer Online and the TFA prize, as well as the kind support of our Sponsors and the Press, we hope we are now some way to achieving this goal.

To keep abreast of all future news and information from Tasveer, you can visit us on Facebook and Twitter. In the meantime, the dates of our remaining exhibitions for the Sixth Season can be seen below.
