Series - MY PRESS PHOTO
Written by - SHADI GHADIRIAN
As a student and later as a conceptual artist using photography, I have studied hundreds and thousands of photographs. I used to look at the famous images from World Press Photo, be disturbed and keep thinking about them. Sometimes in my mind, these images would mix with images I had seen around me of my realities. I realised how the content of these images were both local and universal-of the futility of war, the oppression of power, the inequality in our world and the humanity of men and women. I decided to make photos of what I was already seeing in my mind’s eye, mixing my realities with the World Press Photo images, raising the same issues in my country. I called it My Press Photo. Each of us carries our own press photos. |
